CodeDojo: Hack-A-Ton 2026 — Build, Innovate, and Empower Local Communities
Get ready to turn ideas into reality at CodeDojo: Hack-A-Ton 2026, an upcoming hackathon organised by Motion-U at the Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
Taking place on 16–17 October 2026, the event brings together aspiring developers, creators, and problem-solvers for an intensive challenge focused on building meaningful technology solutions.
Empowering Local Communities Through Technology
This year's hackathon is centred around the theme “Empowering Local Communities.”
Participants will be challenged to identify real-world problems faced by local communities and develop innovative web-based solutions that can create meaningful impact. Rather than simply building another application, participants are encouraged to think about how technology can address genuine needs and improve people's everyday lives.
A 48-Hour Build Challenge
At the heart of Hack-A-Ton is a 24-hour web development challenge. Participants will work collaboratively to transform their ideas into functional and responsive web applications within a limited timeframe.
The challenge is designed to push participants beyond coding alone. Teams will need to brainstorm ideas, divide responsibilities, solve problems, manage their time, and turn their concepts into working products.
Whether you're an experienced developer or just beginning your journey in web development, the hackathon provides an opportunity to learn through hands-on experience and collaboration.
More Than Just a Competition
CodeDojo: Hack-A-Ton 2026 is also an opportunity to develop skills that extend beyond programming.
Participants can strengthen their:
- Web development and technical skills
- Problem-solving abilities
- Communication and teamwork
- Time-management skills
- Creativity and innovation
- Product development experience
By the end of the event, participants will have more than just a competition experience—they will have a project that can become part of their portfolio and potentially grow beyond the hackathon.
What to Expect
The event begins with a pre-hackathon online briefing, where participants will be introduced to the hackathon, its guidelines, and preparation requirements.
The main event will then take participants through an intensive development journey:
Day 1 will feature the opening ceremony, theme announcement, team formation, and the start of the 24-hour web development challenge.
Day 2 will focus on project submission, team presentations, judging, and the award and closing ceremony.
The detailed event schedule will be shared with participants through the official WhatsApp group.
Compete, Create, and Get Recognised
Participants will also have the opportunity to compete for prizes across several categories, including:
- Champion — RM90
- Runner-Up — RM60
- Rising Rookie — RM30
While the prizes add to the excitement, the real value lies in the experience of building something from scratch, working alongside other passionate developers, and showcasing what you can create under pressure.
